Preventive cardiology is important, as cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide. Early identification and management of risk factors can significantly reduce the likelihood of developing these serious diseases and improve quality of life. The goal of a Cardiologist should not only be disease-free, but a life without serious health problems and primarily cardiologically, which allows people to enjoy the activities they desire, to feel alive and energetic!
Preventive cardiology focuses on preventing the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, stroke and on preventing the worsening of existing cardiovascular diseases.
To achieve this, your Cardiologist evaluates your medical history, family history, lifestyle and performs tests (such as blood pressure measurement, lipid profile, electrocardiogram) to assess a person’s risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
He provides recommendations for a healthy diet, regular physical activity depending on your personal cardiac condition, smoking cessation, stress management and maintaining a healthy weight. Other risk factors that need to be addressed are lack of physical activity, unhealthy diet, chronic anxiety (stress). And don’t forget that men generally have a higher risk of heart disease at a younger age, but the risk for women increases after menopause.
In some cases, the Cardiologist may prescribe medication to manage risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes.
